I’ve been away from my blog for a while, and I really don’t have a reason other than that blogging hasn’t been a major priority. I’ve kind of missed writing and sharing bits of my life and my thoughts on topics, but it is what it is, right? In any case, here are some of the things that have happened since I last wrote on my blog (which was in September 2016).
- I visited NYC for Christmas.
- I’ve been acing all my classes.
- I got a part-time job in a coffee shop.
- I celebrated my 3 year anniversary with my girlfriend.
- I’ve been accepted to two colleges so far.
There’s more mundane things that have happened over the past 7-8 months, but nothing worth mentioning.
Even though I’m waiting to hear back from a few colleges, I’m fairly certain I know where I’ll be attending in the fall. It’s near my girlfriend’s hometown and she has also been accepted to that university already. And I already have my major picked out – computer science/information technology – as that’s what I’ve been doing on my own over the years. The nice thing is that thanks to the Dual program I’m in at my online school now, I’ll already have an Associate’s Degree and general education classes will be knocked out already. I could probably graduate with my Bachelor’s within two years if I wanted to.
I think I’m going to take my time though. I’m young, and in no rush to become a “full adult” anytime soon.
So, that’s what’s been going on with me.
How have you been?
Two years – it’s a long time in some aspects, like if you’re waiting for a movie or book to be released, but in reality it’s just a speck in time.
It all depends on how you look at it.
Before it happens, it seems like two years is so far away. Like thinking right now, if I have to wait for a new movie, book or gadget to come out in 2018 it feels like that day will never come. Once it does come though, it won’t feel like I waited two years (or maybe it will, I guess that depends).
When it comes to other things in life, two years is nothing.
I’ve been in high school for just over two years now, and I can’t believe it. I feel like I just started my freshman year. I can hardly believe that this time next year I’ll be in my final months of high school and preparing for college.
Two years ago today, I asked out the most amazing girl to enter my life… and I still feel like it was only yesterday she came into my life. Long distance might play a part in my feeling like we haven’t been together for two years already, but I think even if I did see her everyday I’d feel the same. Just as I can’t believe I’m actually lucky enough to have her in my life.
Time is funny. It can feel like it flies by too quickly or plays out in slow motion.
Fast or slow, I’m just happy that I’m able to spend my life with those who are important to me.
Happy anniversary Sarah!
In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Advantage of Foresight.”
Despite the catch of losing one day each time I looked into the future, I still wouldn’t want to. It’s tempting, for sure. I mean, who doesn’t want to know what their life is going to turn out like? What kind of job will you have? Will you be successful or a failure? How many kids will you have?
Being able to see into the future could mess a person up. If I were to look into the future and see that I end up successful and rich, then I’d graze through life not worrying, and probably cocky, knowing that everything is going to be okay. On the other hand, if I found out I’m essentially a failure in the future, then I’d end up depressed for the rest of my life.
Of course, either outcome could end up changing, but it would ultimately change the person I am now – and I like that person.
Knowing the future takes away from the now. We humans put too much time dwelling on the past or looking towards the future that we forget to live our lives in the moment with no worry and no regrets.
“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
Besides, I like surprises – and life is full of them.
So I haven’t updated in a while, and the reason is simple… I’ve been a little busy.
You all know I’m back in school and since it’s online it doesn’t take up as much of my time so I have more time for other things. Lately I’ve been cooking and learning some recipes from my new cookbooks, so that’s been taking my time. I am also in business with two of my brothers in a photography company we are starting up.
Meanwhile, I’ve also been keeping more in contact with my siblings that are out of state. My brother Seth is starting a book club at his and Scotty’s school since he’s such a bookworm and he’s also dominating the chess club. Scotty is auditioning for a lead in the first school play, so I’m rooting for him to get it. But Scotty has also released some music on his SoundCloud account, so here’s one of them:
In other news of some of my other siblings, my oldest sister and my oldest brother are each planning their weddings with their significant others… so that might happen before the end of the year. They’ll probably be in the same week or month.
But yeah, that’s pretty much it.
